Prominent Technology Law Attorney Alan S. Wernick Has Joined Aronberg Goldgehn in Its Newly Formed Privacy, Cybersecurity & Technology Law Practice Group

Alan S. Wernick, a well-known Technology Law attorney, has joined Aronberg Goldgehn’s newly formed Privacy, Cybersecurity & Technology Law Practice Group as Of Counsel. He handles the complex, cutting-edge technology, intellectual property and privacy/cybersecurity issues that present the greatest strategic challenges to clients in this constantly evolving technology marketplace.

Alan has an extensive track record advising organizations acquiring, using, selling and licensing technologies and related services. He assists clients in the drafting and negotiation of a variety of technology and commercial agreements; data privacy/cybersecurity compliance, remediation and data breach response; IP protection; mergers and acquisitions due diligence; and compliance processes, procedures and policies. A member of the bar in Illinois, New York, Ohio and Washington D.C., he is also an advocate in the federal, state and appellate courts, and in arbitrations and mediations, for client disputes concerning information technology and intellectual property, including breach of contract claims, IP infringement and/or licensing claims.

Alan provides advice and counsel to the executive suite and Board of Directors, while developing an intimate understanding of the business in order to help maintain compliance, assist in preparation for a data incident and, where feasible, avoid the occurrence of incidents. He also assists the business in managing and mitigating risks associated with technology, intellectual property, and proprietary data assets (including PII and trade secrets).

He represents middle market, Fortune 500, Fortune 100 and startup businesses in a variety of industries, including information technology, financial services, insurance, health care, manufacturing and distributing, publishing, standard development organizations, real estate, architectural and retail, as well as educational and research institutions and professional and trade associations. With an extensive, multidisciplinary background in law, business, accounting, auditing, computer science, the information technology industry and Alternative Dispute Resolution, Alan is a bridge builder among the business, technology and intellectual property communities.

In addition to his private practice, for more than 35 years Alan has worked as an arbitrator/mediator in ADR in both private settings and for the U.S. federal courts. He has arbitrated and mediated cases involving business-critical computer user and vendor disputes, technology disputes (including e-commerce and outsourcing), website development disputes, licensing disputes, software ownership and intellectual property disputes. He is a member of several neutrals panels for the American Arbitration Association, including Commercial, Technology, Intellectual Property (Licensing), Cyber Security and Large Complex Cases.

Prior to joining Aronberg Goldgehn, Alan had his own practice, Wernick & Associates, Ltd., which he started in 2017. He began his legal career as an in-house counsel (Associate General Counsel then General Counsel) for Homewood Corporation in Columbus, Ohio, and subsequently practiced with several large law firms, including FisherBroyles, LLP, Querrey & Harrow, Quarles & Brady LLP, McBride, Baker & Coles, and Hahn Loeser.
