Jennifer Kuzminski represents high net worth individuals and families with respect to their planning and tax needs, including wealth preservation and estate planning strategies, complex tax and charitable gift planning, estate and trust administration, probate, estate and gift taxation compliance and audit examinations.

Whether representing families with generational wealth, ultra-high net worth individuals, executives, business owners, or entrepreneurs, Jennifer devises and helps implement plans to achieve clients’ goals for protecting, preserving and transferring wealth while minimizing tax consequences. She advises clients on income, corporate, estate, gift, and generating-skipping tax considerations and works with business owners to plan for future company events.

Jennifer also works with private equity firms and family offices on gifting strategies, such as gifting business interests prior to a liquidation event and gifting carried interest, to help minimize wealth transfer tax liability.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS

  • Drafted directed irrevocable domestic asset protection trust for client’s federal estate tax exemption credit absorbing gift to children.

  • Modification of an irrevocable trust for a client to include special needs provisions using the Illinois Trust Code decanting process.

  • Led an IRS Examination (Audit) of a Federal Estate Tax Return on a $65M Trust estate, resulting in no substantial valuation increase for S Corp stock, LP interests.

  • Assisted a foundation with application for Federal Tax-Exempt Organization.

  • Managed rolling Grantor Retained Annuity Trust (GRAT) program for client with asset values over $300M.

  • Completed complex estate administration with ancillary proceedings in six states.

  • Served as subject matter co-counsel to litigation in case where fiduciary was removed from office by the probate court.

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Jennifer joined Aronberg Goldgehn in 2024. Prior to joining the firm, she was a partner in the Trust and Estates Group at HMB Legal Counsel in Chicago. Jennifer previously practiced at a boutique law firm and an AmLaw 100 firm in Chicago, where she drafted complex estate plans for families with net worth exceeding $2 billion.

Jennifer was recognized by Crain’s Chicago Business on its 2024 Notable Women Lawyers list. She holds a Legal Lean Sigma Yellow Belt Certification in Legal Process and Project Management.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Jennifer has a strong commitment to pro bono legal service. She has provided no-cost legal services to seniors and clients of the Center for Disability and Elder Law and the Heartland Alliance in Chicago, as well as provided no-cost income tax preparation for low-income clients of Ladder Up, an organization that provides tax assistance and financial resources to qualifying individuals.

Jennifer is also involved in the Park Ridge community and has served as a walkathon chairperson for Eugene Field Elementary School.

In her free time, Jennifer enjoys playing tennis, traveling and baking. She loves trying new restaurants and experimenting with new cuisine.

What is your favorite thing about working at Aronberg Goldgehn? The location with its access to so many healthy food options. The building amenities are amazing.

What would you be doing if you weren’t a lawyer? I would be a small business shop owner, maybe a jewelry store owner.

What is your favorite place in Chicago? The lakefront!

What is the best vacation you’ve ever been on? My trips to Australia, Japan and Iceland have all been wonderful. I couldn't choose just one "best."

What is your favorite restaurant? Holt’s in Park Ridge. In Chicago, it's Bar Mar. My favorite chain steakhouse is Capital Grille.

What is something most people don’t know about you? I owned a stained-glass business for five years.
